My name is Lindsey Barker. I am 25 years old and I have just completed my first year of teaching 8th grade Math at Olive Peirce Middle School. I chose to pursue a credential in mathematics because math was not
always so easy for me, and now I absolutely love it! I want to show students that just because you may have failed at math previously (like I did), you can still become successful like me! All through elementary school and part of high school I
struggled in math. Math was actually my worst subject. I had a great teacher my
junior year of high school and all of a sudden math became fun for me. My
senior year of high school I was selected to be an academic tutor for a special
needs Geometry class and I absolutely loved it! This was the first experience that made me realize my love for teaching. I received a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics from California State University in May of 2014. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies in May of 2012 with a depth of study in Mathematics. While getting my Bachelor’s Degree I was able to work as a
Teaching Assistant for a Juvenile Court and Community School through the San
Diego Office of Education. I primarily worked with students who were involved
in drugs or gangs. I worked at this location for 3 years and again, it made me realize
how much I enjoy teaching. I have
also been working as a private math tutor for the past 3 years as well. I look
forward to continuing my career as a Math educator and growing in my skill set along the way! I have been married for about one year and my husband and I have two cats that we enjoy everyday!
