During my first year of teaching I had the privilege to work at Olive Peirce Middle School in Ramona. My first day at Olive Peirce Middle School was October 27th 2014. I ended up taking over 5 8th grade Introduction to Algebra classes and an academic support class. The teacher who originally lead my classes moved to a different position on campus. The classes that I had taken over were lead by various substitute teachers for about a month before I was able to be hired. As a first year teacher, it was definitely a challenge not being able to start with my students at the beginning of the year! I was able to teach various units of math with my students including: Linear Equations: graphing slope and y intercept, Solving Systems of Linear Equations, Properties of Exponents, Scientific Notation, and Pythagorean Theorem.
When I was first hired on campus all Math teachers took part in two different curriculum implementations/ pilots for the new Common Core. I was unable to take part in the first curriculum, however I was able to implement and pilot the Springboard curriculum. Near the end of the year the teachers voted on the curriculum that would be used for the district. I was also able to participate in various other district training's, such as the implementation of Learning Intentions and Success Criteria based upon the work of John Hattie. I am very thankful for the time I was able to have at Olive Peirce Middle School and I believe that I truly grew as an educator from the experience!
Below you can find some lesson plans/assignments that I created throughout the year.

Throughout my year at Olive Peirce Middle School our students participated in several reading and writing projects to help strengthen their writing/annotation skills. During the month that the Math team created the reading and writing assignment, I was in charge of creating the answer document to reference for other teachers. The reading and writing assignment with the answers is attached below.
